Eudora is an immigrant from Brazil whose native language is Portuguese, and she gets frustrated when others assume she is Spanish speaking. She is very proud of her Brazilian Heritage and engaged in following sports teams, especially soccer. Eudora has many talents, but suffers from anxiety and low self-esteem, which she hides by appearing abrupt and sometimes aggressive when questioned. Eudora has strong opinions, especially regarding the natural sciences and environmental issues and is a non-conformist. She loves anything to do with science and nature and being outdoors. Eudora is not highly motivated to achieve and resists and avoids writing, often not handing in homework. She finds it difficult to be in a classroom and expected to sit through classwork, preferring to be outdoors and active. As a result, she fidgets, rocks in her chair, and is sullen and sometimes uncooperative when challenged. The usual disciplinary measures have no meaning for her as she is an independent thinker and willful. When she is working on areas of her own interest, she becomes totally absorbed, and is highly motivated. Outside of school she enjoys watching sport and community events that remind her of the streets and community in Brazil.
